The Ferguson-Johnson Wealth Management Team
John Ferguson serves as a Principal and Director of Ferguson-Johnson Wealth Management. He has been in the investment business since 1963 as an analyst, securities broker, investment counselor, and asset manager. He has also served as a regional division manager for a major NYSE member firm, Reynolds Securities.
John graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science in agricultural economics. He has pursued advanced studies at Washington University, The Ben Franklin School of Accounting and the Masters of Taxation Program at Southeastern University. John also completed the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation program and Certified Investment Management Analyst program. John was also an adjunct professor at George Washington University where he taught students enrolled in the Certified Financial Planning program.
For more than five years John hosted the weekly program Money Matter on WAMU radio, an NPR station. He has made hundreds of media appearances and has been cited in The Washington Post, Money Magazine and Assignment Small Business. Besides being a hiker, a golfer, and a sailor, John is an avid organic gardener, and since 2010 has been using geothermal to help cool and heat his house.

Derek Johnson, CRPC®
Derek Johnson, CRPC®, serves as a Principal and Director of Ferguson-Johnson Wealth Management. As a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor and the Head of our Investment Committee, Derek is in touch with leading academics in the areas of portfolio and wealth management. He is also an Investment Advisor Representative.
Derek has been with Ferguson-Johnson Wealth Management since 2000. Over the years Derek has helped clients in all stages of life, and has built a large network of attorneys, accountants, and insurance agents who put their clients’ interests first. He holds a Bachelor of Science in finance from the University of Maryland. He has presented research on the benefits of asset class allocation to the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII).
The son of a successful small business owner, Derek appreciates the value of money and what it takes to earn it. Derek mentors students in the Wootton High School Cooperative Education Program and is a big football fan.
Jon Powell, CFP®
Jon Powell, CFP® serves as a financial planner and portfolio manager for Ferguson-Johnson Wealth Management. He organizes, develops, and delivers financial plans to our clients as well as overseeing client portfolios. Jon is also the primary author and curator of the content featured on our website’s blog. He has been with the firm since 2013.
Jon graduated with a degree in finance from Virginia Tech’s renowned CFP® Certification Education track, a CFP Board-Registered Program. Prior to his time at Ferguson-Johnson Wealth management, he gained experience in investments, risk management, and financial planning from working with other local wealth management firms. He has a fierce commitment to the fiduciary standard and always exercises this care with our clients.
Jon maintains professional memberships with the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) and the Financial Planning Association (FPA). He is a constant learner, always seeking out the most effective ways to deliver solutions to our clients. His commentary and opinion on personal finance have been featured in publications such as Bloomberg and Reuters.
Outside the office, Jon enjoys playing tennis and golf and loves to sit down to a good board game. He is a diehard fan of the local, D.C. area sports teams. It’s not unusual to catch him at a Washington Nationals game in the warmer months.
Stacie Ricketts is a financial operations manager with Ferguson Johnson Wealth Management. In this role, Stacie manages aspects of daily firm operations, including processing forms, account openings, transfers, cash requests, wire transfers, and disbursements. She also maintains our client relationship management software and office workflow. Stacie has more than 8 years of management experience in the customer service industry.
Stacie is currently completing her studies in business and finance. She lives in Maryland with her two children and her St. Bernard. When not working, Stacie enjoys baking, reading, and gardening.
Kadeem Anderson serves as the client relationship manager for the Ferguson Johnson Wealth Management team. He supports advisors by conducting research as well as preparing necessary information and carrying out administrative responsibilities to maintain and improve the diligence and efficiency of the firm. He also maintains our website and monitors our various social media platforms.
Kadeem graduated from Duquesne University with a degree in Finance and additionally brings with him experience from working in investment operations for a bank. Kadeem plans to become a financial advisor sometime in the future.
During his free time, Kadeem enjoys playing soccer, participating in fantasy sports, and attending sporting events. He is a diehard fan of the Baltimore Ravens and also loves D.C. sports, especially the Washington Capitals.
